If I were to say you were perfect
I would be a liar
If I were to say I loved you
I'd be inconsiderate
If I were to hold you in my arms and say you were safe
I'd be giving you a false sense of security
I understand why you tell me that nothing is pure
Why nothing matters
Why it's all just a waste
If I could fool you into believing that there was something good
Something real
Something fresh
Something free
Would you resent me for the deception?
Or would you learn to love this fake light I shed upon you
Letting it suck you in and hold you tight
Might you fight those who attempt to enlighten you?
Burn the buildings
Tear the walls
Break the chains that were said to set you free
This lie that brings you happiness and comfort
Allow it to ruin you

Another poem I wrote not too long ago. I'm such a fan of free verse and one of the few I know of that can actually make it work.

This one pretty much speaks for itself. It even touches up on religion and relationships...I really enjoy it.

It's almost too bad that there are still so many people who actually rely on and need those lies just to allow themselves to function in every day situations.

Yes, it is. Still, acknowledging the truth is better than lying to one's self in my opinion anyway.
